There were over 20 categories of truck prizes to be won.
What started as a one-off event in 2017 to raise money for the local women’s football club has transformed into an annual truck and trade show in one of Tasmania’s oldest towns, Sorell.
Located 25 kilometres north-east of Hobart, the town was once again host to the South East Suns Truck & Trade Show on Sunday, June 11.
A crowd of approximately 2,000 people attended this year’s event. There were 78 registered trucks at the venue and over 20 categories of truck prizes to be won.
The event was held at Pembroke Park, which is the local sporting precinct and home to the local women’s football club, the South East Suns.
“The day is great for the whole family with plenty to see and do,” said Emma Bygrave, one of the main coordinators of the event.
“The event included some kids activities such as a treasure hunt, face painting, show bags from the local fire brigade, small children’s rides and a ball machine. We also had some big kids activities such as a strap throwing competition.
“We also have a model truck show, a vintage machine display, an overhead crane display, the Tasmanian bus & coach society, a full competition woodchop from the Southern Axeman’s Association, a truck safety awareness display, an amazing display from the Derwent Scottish Pipe Band and a balloon pop with heaps of prizes.”
This year’s truck show helped raise over $8,000 for the women’s football club. The funds will help the club reduce registration costs, purchase new equipment and aid in team-building activities for all the teams within the club.
