A Tasmanian alpaca owner has been left distraught after waking up to a gruesome scene on Friday morning in the state’s north-west.
Vicki Kelly discovered her three beloved animals, Georgie, Dulcie, and Rosie, had been mauled to death in what she believes was a dog attack.
The alpacas had been living peacefully in a paddock at Stony Rise, near Devonport, until Thursday night when they were killed in a brutal incident.
Kelly expressed her heartbreak at the tragic event, stating that one of the alpacas had even had its face ripped off.
“They must have been terrified. It seems like a nightmare,” she told the local paper.
The vet was called to the scene and found that Dulcie was still alive. However, her injuries were so severe that the difficult decision was made to her.
The other two alpacas were already dead when the gruesome scene was discovered.
The Devonport City Council has been informed of the incident and are currently investigating, while Kelly is urging the owner of the dogs she thinks are responsible to come forward.
“There would be signs your dog had been involved in such a significant event,” she said. “These poor alpacas were brutally killed, killed for the fun of it it seems,” she told The Advocate.
