TRAINER Alan Proctor has earmarked next month’s Group 1 Vic Peters Classic (520m) at Wentworth Park for his emerging star prospect Tarawi Tiger.
Launching his career with six wins and three placings from nine starts, Tarawi Tiger, a son of Barcia Bale and Hello Mavis, continued his dazzling form with a sublime Maitland victory on Monday night.
The time recorded a dazzling best of meeting 24.97.
“It was his first look at Maitland as well which made the win even better,” Proctor beamed.
“He’s a really exciting young dog and they’re mighty hard to come by.
“I’ve tried to do the right thing and bring him along slow, racing up the straight and on the u-turn tracks and let him find his way.
“He can be a tad slow out of the boxes but he has great speed when he hits the ground. Like we saw last night.”
Not two until September, Proctor plans to aim the exciting Tarawi Tiger toward July’s Group 1 Vic Peters Classic (520m) at Wentworth Park which boasts a $75,000 first prize.
“He’s in a final next week at Maitland and then I’ll start to look toward that with him,” Proctor added.
“I’ll get him some experience at Wenty and see how he measures up.”
Tarawi Tiger’s upward rise continues the great association Proctor has enjoyed with the Atchison family which owns the high flying youngster.
“I got him when he was 17 months old and they had a bit of a wrap on him,” Proctor said.
“He’s kicked off in the right way so hopefully he goes on with it. But he’s a good chaser so that’s a great start.”
