If it’s a high-profile red carpet event, you can bet your favorite celebrities are wearing something sheer. The peekaboo trend shows absolutely no signs of slowing down, and Sydney Sweeney’s latest look proves it.
The actor walked the black carpet in a strapless black sheer Schiaparelli Haute Couture SS23 gown to celebrate the premiere of her movie Reality in New York City, looking like a goth mermaid with tousled blonde waves.
Sweeney wore a glamorous gown designed by Daniel Roseberry with peekaboo panels of cotton tulle at her midriff, thighs, and knees and panels of velvet and silk chiffon to give it a dreamy, romantic quality. From certain angles, it looked like Sweeney was wearing a minidress because the black train blended into the carpet, creating the illusion of a completely different gown. You got the full effect from others with the pops of skin and strips of fabric.
Sweeney kept the rest of her look simple with beachy blonde waves befitting the goth mermaid-core vibes of her Schiaparelli gown, plus deep black eyeliner and a hint of shimmery bronze color on her lids for subtle definition. The actor wore a sheer milk bath manicure and a few rings, plus a pair of small drop earrings, but otherwise kept her accessories minimal to keep the focus on the dress.
Celebs truly can’t get enough of sheer dresses. Vanessa Hudgens recently wore a “springtime goth” look that paired sheer panels with floral details, while Dua Lipa had us scratching our heads trying to figure out the mechanics of her sheer jumpsuit-gown hybrid. Ciara went sheer for the Vanity Fair Oscars after-party, and Bridgerton star Simone Ashley put her spin on the look for an awards ceremony. As we move into summer, we’re looking forward to seeing how our fave stars make sheer textures feel seasonal, and we think Sweeney’s look is the perfect example of how to do sheer in summer.
