The Yeppoon Swans have restarted their winning streak, starting with a victory over the Brothers Kangaroos.
Despite getting back into the winners’ circle, the match would not be an easy comeback for the Swans.
Yeppoon may have led at the end of each quarter but the Brothers made them work for every goal.
Eventually two goals from Alex Chapman, Leigh Cossens, Jayden Pain, Tyler Romerill and Grant Van Rooyen would be enough for Yeppoon to get the job done, winning 10.12 (72) – 8.7 (55).
This weekend they face a massive test however, coming up against a team that almost broke their streak last season.
The BITS Saints, coming off back-to-back wins, will be hunting down Yeppoon at Boyne Island this weekend.
The Saints are marching into the match having knocked off the Rockhampton Panthers for the first time this season.
BITS and Rockhampton had a draw last time out but in round seven it was the Saints who brought home all the competition points.
Giaan Kapp’s four goals led the BITS boys to a 8.9 (57) – 7.5 (47) despite being behind at the half time break.
That now sets up the 2022 grand final rematch and the second time the teams will collide this year.
In the reserve fixture it was the Swans who got the win at home by a sizeable margin.
The Saints will be planning on flipping that result and attempting to stop the Swans’ winning streak before it has truly begun.
A weekend after defeating that incredible streak, the Glenmore Bulls failed to capitalise on their momentum.
The Bulls were knocked off by the Gladstone Suns 9.5 (59) – 9.1 (55) at Clinton Park.
Now the Bulls will have to reset before facing off against the Brothers on Friday night.
And in the final match of the round, the Panthers will face the Gladstone Suns.
The Suns have crept into the top four after their win over Glenmore and now with the Kangaroos, Bulls and Suns all 10 points ahead of the Panthers, they are in desperate need of their first win of the season.
In the women’s competition the Rockhampton Panthers continue to dominate, winning 5.12 (42) – 1.0 (6) over the BITS Saints.
The team tracking them from second place, the Yeppoon Swans, also got a similar win, defeating the Kangaroos 7.9 (51) – 0.2 (2).
And the Glenmore Bulls were outclassed by the Gladstone Suns, losing 5.3 (33) – 1.4 (10).
