An hours-long standoff with police is over in Portland and there is no threat to the public at this time.Portland police took a man into custody at 449 Forest Avenue around 9:30 p.m. Friday night.Police say the standoff started sometime before 8 p.m. when they responded to a report of threats made at Burger King. Leading up to the arrest, police could be heard communicating with the man in a silver sedan, who they called “Gabriel.”Around 9:20 p.m., police started to deploy non-lethal flash bangs and rounds before rushing the vehicle and bringing the man to the ground as you saw. Portland police Maj. Jason King says the reports they received warranted a heavy response. “That’s kind of why we have the posture that we had, you know, just to keep the public safe. It’s as you can see, it’s a very busy area. There’s a lot of people going around, so it’s hard to keep it controlled. So, we had to do the best we could with what we had,” King said. The suspect was transported to Maine Medical Center for non-life-threatening injuries and will be brought to the Cumberland County Jail after to face criminal charges.Police say more information will be released on Saturday.
