Blackman’s Brewing has swept aside the competition to take home one of the beer industry’s top prizes.
Blackman’s Brewery, based in Torquay and Grovedale, won Best Porter or Stout at the Australian International Beer Awards, with their Arthur Smoked Porter.
Brewery owner Renn Blackman said it was an “amazing achievement”.
“We always enter every yer and we always go quite well … but to win a champion beer award is a huge achievement, it’s pretty cool,” he said.
“We’ve basically won Australia’s best dark beer.

“Big congratulations to the whole Blackman’s team and the work everyone’s putting in.”
The win helped put the region’s beers on the map.
“It’d be great if people are coming to the Surf Coast to drink our beers,” he said.
Family owned and operated, Blackman’s Brewing are known for their out-of-the-box beverages.
Last month, the company announced a new beer with red frog lollies and raspberries for the Great Australasian Beer SpecTAPular (GABS) this month.
Mr Blackman said the range reflected the team’s “love of beer”.
“You just aim to make beers you’d like to drink,” Mr Blackman said.
“It’s pretty creative … there’s endless opportunity with beer.”
The award-winning porter was made using smoked malt – known as Rauchmalz – specially imported from Bamberg in Germany, an idea spawned from a trip to the country.
