Supercars is approaching the Bathurst Regional Council for additional camp sites after a record sell out on Tuesday.
Supercars put the camp sites for the 60th anniversary Bathurst 1000 on sale on Tuesday morning and were snapped up in just 90 minutes.
With sales and renewals now completed, more than 7000 camp sites around Mount Panorama will be filled come October 5-8 when the 2023 Great Race takes place.
After the campsites were sold within an hour and a half, Supercars and the Bathurst Regional Council have started looking at the possibility of extending the campgrounds to house more race fans.
Supercars CEO Shane Howard confirmed the sell out has surpassed all expectations and now hopes to welcome even more race fans to the campgrounds this year.
“We anticipated a high level of demand for camp sites, but the speed at which they sold out has surpassed all expectations,” he said.
“It’s a testament to the passion and loyalty of our fans.
“We will meet with Council next week to investigate additional camping options to accommodate the overwhelming demand.”
With optimism on the possibility of more campsites becoming available later in the year, Howard reveals those who missed out on Bathurst tents still have hope.
“We encourage fans who missed out this morning to add their name to our newly created waitlist which has been set up today, with information to go out soon regarding the potential dates for new sites to go on sale,” Howard said.
