Chaz Mostert and Riarne Marwood have announced their secret engagement after the Supercars fan favourite proposed five days after their first child was stillborn at 22 weeks last month.
The couple discovered they were pregnant on Christmas Eve last year but a routine scan in April found an issue with the baby’s heart.

“We hoped and prayed and begged for a miracle for those next six long weeks of more scans and appointments because we have never wanted something more in our lives as much as we wanted you,” Riarne wrote two weeks ago.
“But instead of waking from this nightmare, it only got worse.
“The day your heart stopped beating was the day mine broke completely, all of our hopes and dreams and the life we imagined with you suddenly shattered into a million painful pieces.”
Hazel Lola Mostert was stillborn on May 3 “with her hand on her broken heart”.
“That day I learnt that pure love and deep gut-wrenching pain can coincide and live together for eternity,” Riarne continued.
“My heart will never recover from the pain of losing my baby girl.
“There will always be an empty place in my heart and in my arms that will forever belong to you Hazel Lola Mostert.
“You were too beautiful for this world. You are my angel, my darling, my star, and my love will find you wherever you are.”
The couple received support from around the Supercars paddock, with veteran driver Will Davison and presenter Riana Crehan – who are expecting their first child this year – leading the way.
Unbeknownst to anyone, however, Riarne’s announcement came nearly three weeks on from Mostert taking a significant step in the days after their loss.
He proposed on a sunset walk on May 8.
“The love of my life got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I’ve never been so sure of anything in my life than saying yes to spending my forever with you Chaz,” Riarne wrote on Thursday.
“As the sun disappeared on the day we last held and said goodbye to our precious daughter, you filled my heavy heart with an entirely new depth of love.
“We are bonded in ways I never knew were possible and I’m forever grateful to have you by my side, through the good days and the bad.
“You are my everything, my soulmate, my love and my light. I can’t wait to be your wife and spend the rest of my life with you.”
Mostert’s Bathurst-winning co-driver Lee Holdsworth joined friends in congratulating the couple.
“Bloody awesome!! Couldn’t be happier for you guys,” he wrote.
Hazel was stillborn just days after Mostert competed in Perth.
He also drove in Tasmania in late May before Riarne announced the couple’s loss the following week.
Mostert will return to the track next weekend when the Supercars season resumes in Darwin, live and free on Seven and 7plus.
