Edwina is married to writer and journalist Neil Varcoe, who also describes himself as an “accidental farmer”.
Together, they have two children, a three-year-old daughter named Molly and a son, Tom, who was born last year.
“Today is a big day for our little family,” she began her post.
“Neil officially shifts from working in digital media to full-time farming @warramba and kick-starting @thevictoria1846.”
Warramba is a luxury farm retreat on 40 hectares in the Greater Blue Mountains, where Varcoe will take on the role of Chief Farming Officer.
He will also become Project Manager for The Victoria, a boutique hotel in the historic town of Carcoar.
Edwina said she would stay in Sydney during the week to continue her role on Sunrise, but that the family would visit Carcoar on weekends.
“Neil was born and raised in Lithgow and went to school in Bathurst so it’s pretty exciting he now gets to contribute to the extraordinary growth in the Central West,” she wrote.
“He is also the proud new owner of a very big jacket and a beard to survive the winter.
“We have our first stay in Carcoar as a family this weekend.
“We will miss him during the week but let the commuting, designing, renovation fun begin!”
Edwina went on to share a series of adorable family pictures as a new chapter of their lives begins.
Across on her husband’s Instagram page, similar excitement was being expressed.
“Today is a big day. I officially shift from working in digital media and tech to full-time farming and, randomly, restoring and running an historic hotel in the country,” Neil wrote.
“I’ll continue to write and teach on the side but I am mostly excited to build a business for our family from scratch.
“The Central West holds a special place in my heart — I was born and raised in Lithgow and finished my schooling in Bathurst.
“The chance to contribute to the extraordinary growth that’s occurring in my home region is irresistible.
“This would not be possible without the support and courage of my wife, Edwina.
“In fact, this wild scheme was her idea.
“I’ll miss my family during the week, making each weekend sweeter.”
Back on Edwina’s Instagram, followers flocked to congratulate the family on its new venture.
“I love that you’re both constantly looking for ways to move forward,” one follower wrote.
“You both inspire me. Can’t wait to see this next part unfold.”
“Sending so much love ❤️ it’s going to be a wonderful adventure and I’m so happy for you,” said another.
“Congratulations on a career change. It’s tough transitioning but being a farmer will be worth it. Great for family life,” added a third.
“Wonderful for Carcoar! Best wishes to your little Aussie family,” another wrote.
“So wonderful that you’re putting your heart and sound into this wonderful country we call home.”
In an earlier post, Edwina wrote about the purchase of the 1846 hotel in Carcoar.
“We just sold our house… and bought a hotel,” she wrote on May 7.
“Welcome to @thevictoria1846.
“In 1846, the Victoria Hotel was built on the banks of the Belubula River in Carcoar.
“It was a single story inn, visited by locals, travellers and the odd bushranger.
“177 years later, on that very same parcel of land, The Victoria returns to welcome a new generation of guests.”
Edwina noted that Carcoar was the third oldest settlement west of the Blue Mountains, calling it “the town that time forgot.”
“A new full-time project for @neilwrites,” she added.
“A new side hustle for me in addition to @warramba and waking up with you every morning on @sunriseon7.
“Reopening 2025 (with a lot of Fawlty Towers updates to come between now and then).”
Fans and followers were right behind Edwina as she revealed the exciting news.
“Here for the whole journey,” Kylie Gillies wrote.
“Incredible!” added Channel 7 Melbourne reporter Abbey Gelmi.
“This is wonderful news, I have a very soft spot for Carcoar, was born there 86 years ago, had lots of cousins there,” wrote another fan.
“Such a pretty little village, hope this really puts it on the map now, the old buildings are amazing.
“Congratulations!”
