A week of fine weather is being forecast for Tauranga.
A southwesterly airflow lies over the country today with a few frontal features moving through, bringing showers here and there says a WeatherWatch spokesperson.
In the North Island, there will be partly cloudy skies for most with occasional showers north of about Taranaki in the west.
Bay of Plenty should have a mainly sunny day today. Along the east coast there may be a coastal shower or two. Winds from the southwest wil be tending southerly for Wellington up through to southern Taranaki.
In the South Island, it’s a mix of sun and cloud for most although Nelson should stay sunny all day, and Marlborough gets some evening cloud.
Canterbury sees cloud thicken up in the morning as a weak front moves through, with cloud starting to break up from afternoon.
Expect showers for South Westland and Southland. In the evening rain moves into Southland then coastal Otago with a southwest change, and a few showers reach into Central Otago.
Rain is expected to creep back in on Friday, but until then, the outlook is pretty good.
On Tuesday, a southerly flow covers the North Island, bringing rain or showers to Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne; while a ridge builds across the South Island, says the latest update from the MetService.
“The high builds across central New Zealand on Wednesday, and the southerly flow over the North Island weakens.
“On Thursday a large trough over the Tasman Sea moves towards New Zealand, and during Friday the trough starts to move onto the country, with an associated rain band ahead of the trough moving across northern and central New Zealand.
“On Friday, there is low confidence for warning amounts of rain in Northland, the northeast of Auckland, and the west of the Tasman District. Note, there is currently uncertainty with the timing and intensity of the rain band as it moves over New Zealand.”
