Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller reflected on his side’s victory over espérance Sportive de Tunis and reaching the 2023 caf champions league final.
Cairo giants Al Ahly have reached the 2023 caf champions league final after beating Tunisian outfit Espérance Sportive de Tunis 4-0 on aggregate.
Having won the first-leg comfortably in Rades 3-0, Al Ahly managed to win 1-0 in Cairo, thanks to Hussein El-Shahat’s first-half winner.
Speaking after the game, Marcel Koller said: “Our qualification for the final is a well-deserved one and it did not come by luck.
“We wasted a lot of chances in the second half against esperance, but finally we won comfortably and reached the final.
“I do not look to the opponent’s weak points, but only to the development of my team. We know how to win in any place amid any circumstances.
“The penalty kick missed by Al Hilal player Athar Al-Taher against Sundowns was not the reason for our qualification, it is not my fault if a player in a team misses a penalty kick.”
Al Hilal player Athar Al-Taher missed a penalty kick at the end of his team’s game against Sundowns in the group stages of the 2023 CAF Champions League, which would have secured a place for Al Hilal in the quarter-finals over Al Ahly.
However, Al Ahly took advantage of the opportunity and defeated Al Hilal 3-0 in the following game to reserve its seat in the quarter-finals.
