Was doing her best work late when resuming for new stable over 1200m at Nowra on May 21. Will appreciate stepping up in distance.
THE INSIDE MAIL FOR GOSFORD
RACE 1
Justela was a drifter in betting from $4.80 to $7 but still ran well when runner-up behind the impressive Guzumped at Kembla on May 23. She wasn’t disgraced when seventh behind Step Aside at Kembla on May 13 after racing wide without cover. Contarelli will take good improvement from his first-up fourth behind Gold Pattern over 1400m at Newcastle on May 30. Was a big trial winner just before that run. Never Bird was good on debut behind at Wyong then was checked at the top of the straight at Gosford last start. Little Red Power kept battling away when a close fourth to Notabadone at Wyong last Thursday.
Bet: Justela to win
RACE 2
Yankees led all-the-way on debut at Hawkesbury in May last year and followed up with a handy seventh to Wingardium in a Randwick Open 2YO. Failed to handle the firm track at Hawkesbury when resuming last spring and sent back to the paddock. Recent trials have been good. Fourth Spargo blundered near the 300m when looking for a gap on her way to finishing third to Meod at Hawkesbury when resuming on May 18. Chain Of Gold was just beaten a Warwick Farm and was unlucky at Canterbury before breaking through at Orange in late December. Trialling well. Jackyy Dee is an improver and worth including in the multiples.
Bet: Yankees to win. Quinella 4, 6
RACE 3
Sinner was held up until well into the straight and couldn’t build his momentum when he needed to on his way to a fifth behind Smart Legend at Kembla last start. Was hampered near the 200m when third to Ringdembells when resuming at the same track on May 6. Drawn out but should get clear running and his chance to make his run when he wants to. Northumbria lost the race on protest at Hawkesbury the raced greenly when seventh to Let’s Go Bro at Newcastle. Wasn’t far away behind Jabali Belle at Hawkesbury three weeks ago. Encroachment returns from a long spell for a new stable. Trialling well and pay to keep safe. Vancouver’s Crown won’t be far away.
Bet: Sinner each-way
RACE 4
Mr Kennedy didn’t have the best of luck first-up when a long neck second to Consenza at Wyong on May 11 before bumping into a very smart horse in Ozzmosis when second at Gosford two weeks later. The lightly-raced six-year-old looks very hard to beat. Lady De Guide surprised a few first-up when second to Lidia at Nowra as a $61 shot before going down a length to Burnett when fifth at Kembla on May 13 again at big odds. Misty Dreams was an eye-catching third behind Consenza at Wyong on May 11. She will be closing strongly again. Oakfield King has had a throat operation and won a trial nicely here recently.
Bet: Mr Kennedy to win
RACE 5
Gorgeous Zara is a promising young stayer who has only missed a place once in six starts and that was a fourth placings at Hawkesbury after getting well back. Scored a nice win at Newcastle on May 4 followed by a narrow second to Funambulist at Hawkesbury over 2100m. Should handle the step up to 2600m. Reliable Dude has placed at his last three starts including a close third to Funambulist and Gorgeous Zara followed by a second to Angel of Light at Kembla on May 27. Inside Trader was a near four length winner over 2300m at Muswellbrook under 60kg. Turnaround Time is also coming off a big last start win at Nowra over 2200m.
Bet: Gorgeous Zara to win
RACE 6
By Nine was held up behind runners from around the turn until passing the 200m while Queenmaker dashed around the field and shot to a big lead at Canterbury on May 24. By Nine was doing his best work over the final 100m to finish third but no doubt he should have been much closer. Makadeel has been without luck his past couple of starts since winning here on Apr 25. His two career wins have both been at this track and distance. Vandelay Style will appreciate a drop in grade on his latest assignment in a Benchmark 72 at Rosehill behind Rediener. Dream Maiden has place claims.
Bet: By Nine to win. Quinella 2, 3
RACE 7
Florino has been very impressive winning his only two starts at Muswellbrook in a maiden and a Benchmark 58 by widening margins. Steps up to provincial grade in a Benchmark 64 here but from an ideal draw, he gets the perfect run and can bring up the hat-trick. Fire And Ice was runner-up to Akaka Falls at Newcastle three weeks ago before scoring a smart win from Eyewitness at Wyong last week. Good chance again. Grand Crusader has won two of his last four including his latest run at Hawkesbury on May 18. Rebel Dean was just beaten here last start. Don’t take lightly.
Bet: Florino to win. Quinella/trifecta 1, 2, 4
RACE 8
Quilting has been freshened since her sixth to Red Card in the Listed Denise’s Joy at Scone on May 13. Was a handy third to Sports Legend the start prior. Back to her right grade and looks hard to beat wit Dylan Gibbons from gate 1. Capitol Queen was a stylish debut winner at Canterbury before finishing last of nine behind Aft Cabin in the Group 3 Eskimo Prince at Randwick on Feb 4. Announcing was a debut winner here in January and wasn’t far away in her subsequent two starts. Princess Amira is better than her latest run. Has place claims on her first-up win.
Bet: Quilting to win. Quinella 1, 4
