A strong second half ensured another big win for the South Burnett Thrashers in the Darling Downs rugby union competition last Saturday.
At half-time, the Thrashers were ahead 10-5 over the Toowoomba Bears at the USQ ground in Toowoomba.
“Again our forwards played well, with Elaijah Kocovanua, Josaia Droka and Epa Turaganivalu leading our forward pack,” club president Jamie Shirlaw said.
“Jeff Iro and Amosa Nuu were great in the backs.
“The final score was 42 to 15 with us taking another win.
“Our attack in the second half was outstanding, scoring a total of eight tries.
“Unfortunately our goal kicking was not great, only landing one of the eight attempts.
“Our regular kicker, Nikolao Petueli unfortunately was not available on the weekend. We all hope to see him back on the paddock this coming weekend.”
Thrashers tries were scored by Josaia Droka (2), Percili Waqa (2), Sirilo Vulalo (2), Visesio Torris and Fale Palemene. Mark Laki kicked one conversion.
The Thrashers are now in top spot on the B Grade Bill Flamsteed Cup ladder, with eight wins and just one loss after nine rounds.
Next weekend, the Thrashers will be back in action again in Toowoomba, taking on the Toowoomba Rangers in Toowoomba.
The weekend after that is the big one for the club.
June 24 will be the Thrashers’ “Old Boys Day”.
There will be a game between the Thrashers Old Boys and Rocky Uni at 12:15pm at T.J. O’Neill Oval before the regular match against Dalby.
In the evening, the Old Boys Dinner will be held at the Kingaroy Hotel from 7:00pm.
Tickets will be available on the night for $50.
