SYDNEY, N.S. — The City of Sydney is advising residents of construction projects and road closures that are set to disrupt traffic patterns in the downtown area starting on Monday, May 29.
George Street, between Townsend and the tracks at Wentworth Park, will be under construction.
Traffic outbound from downtown Sydney will not be affected but inbound to downtown Sydney will be detoured.
Transit routes 10 and 13 will experience a detour around the construction by turning right on Whitney Avenue, left on Hospital, left on Brookland and returning to George.
Transit riders seeking to board the bus at Whitney and Park should instead go to Whitney and Cottage.
At the downtown transit hub, a new permanent change to positioning will begin on Monday, May 29. Route 9 New Waterford will be located on George Street.
Route 10 and Route 13 will be positioned on Pitt Street.
As part of the Charlotte Street Upgrade project, the Prince and Charlotte Street intersection will be closed to traffic on May 29 and May 30 from 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Traffic control personnel will be on-site to direct and assist pedestrians.
In Glace Bay, a sewer extension will be done on King Edward Street on Monday and Tuesday. Due to the sewer main’s location, the road will be closed between Main Street and Reserve Street.
The road closure will begin at 8 a.m. on Monday and reopen by 7 p.m.
The closure will resume Tuesday at 8 a.m., with plans to reopen the road by 3 p.m. Traffic will be detoured via Victoria Street.
