Some of the best, and important figures, in NBA history have been drafted inside the top 10. In the 2023 NBA All-Star Game, 11 of the 14 players from the Western Conference were top-10 selections. Since 1992, 25 NBA Finals MVP trophies have been handed out to former top-10 picks.
California leads the way with 30, including Damian Lillard, Paul Pierce and Jason Kidd.
Texas is second on the list with 21 with NBA Hall of Famers Chris Bosh and O’Neal among the talent.
Montverde Academy (Montverde, Fla.) and Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) each have five picks in the past three decades. For Montverde, the picks are all since 2015, when D’Angelo Russell was selected second overall by the Los Angeles Lakers. Ben Simmons, R.J. Barrett, Cade Cunningham and Scottie Barnes all followed him.
Jerry Stackhouse was the first Oak Hill player on this list after he was drafted third overall by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1995. Following in his footsteps was Ron Mercer, DeSagna Diop, Carmelo Anthony and Brandon Jennings.
While transfers cloud the picture, we connected players to the school where they finished their prep career.
