- A on-duty police officer has played football with children
- Footage showed him kicking the ball in a front yard game
- The mum said the kids learnt cops are not scary
A suburban mum has captured the heartwarming moment a police officer stopped to play football with six children while on a patrol.
The Brisbane mother filmed the interaction with an officer from the Stafford police station in the city’s northern suburbs in the front yard of her home.
The officer was seen kicking, heading and doing footstalls with the kids’ ball as he jogged up and down the yard playing a game with them.
The mother told 9News the policeman made an impression on the children showing that cops were approachable and ‘not scary’ – adding the playtime was a memory she would keep forever.
The footage showed the officer – who told kids his name was Brady Duggan – impressing the children with fancy footwork while encouraging them to score goals.
He told one of the girls playing with them, ‘you are the best here, I reckon’, while one of the kids said, ‘yeah, let the cops have a bit of fun’.
Three other officers were seen looking on and talking to one another from the opposite side of the road while police vehicles were parked in the street.
The officer did some fist bumps with the kids in his team and told another one, ‘I’ll be on your team next time’.
The moment drew online support from commenters who were encouraged to see kids’ lives ‘brightened up’ by the time the officer spent with them.
‘Showing they are just normal humans,’ said one about the policeman.
‘This is what community is about, good on him,’ said another.
‘Thank you so much, what an awesome way to brighten up the day for these little children… hopefully one day our future soccer players,’ commented a third.
‘That is amazing seeing them take time out of their busy schedules to have a bit of a kick around with the ball with these kids,’ another gushed.
