BEAVER SPRINGS – Beaver Springs scored 10 runs in the last two innings to take care of Strode Mills, 17-12, in a key game in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League on Thursday.
The loss dropped Strodes’ record to 10-4 and Burnham (10-3) moved into second place with a win over Milroy. The two teams square off tonight in Burnham at 6 p.m.
The game featured 25 hits. Beaver Springs had 12, while Strodes had 13.
Colten Aumiller, the hot-hitting rookie, for Springs had four hits with two doubles, Wyatt Shellenberger also had a big night with two hits, including a two-run triple in the sixth inning. Four other Spring players had doubles, Kyle Shupp, Noah Wert, Logan Walter and Tanner Kerstetter.
Strodes Mills was ahead, 8-7, after four innings, but couldn’t hold down the Springs’ bats. Strodes had four players with multiple hits, Evan Strohecker, Michael McNitt, Jaxon Strohecker and Ezra Beamer. Evan Strohecker and Beamer each had doubles.
Beaver Springs used three pitchers with Walter coming in the fourth inning and getting the win,
Aumiller pitched a scoreless seventh for the winners.
McVeytown 6, Lewistown 1
LEWISTOWN — McVeytown snapped a five-game losing streak with a 6-1 win over Lewistown.
Carson Cherry was the star for McVeytown as he pitched his team to the five-run triumph.
Cherry went into the sixth. He struck out nine, walked two and gave up six hits. Bo Benny closed out the win for McVeytown.
McVeytown had nine hits in the win. Cherry and Gatlin Kauffman each had two hits. McVeytown broke the game open with four runs in the fourth. Benny and Trayven Shaffer each had doubles.
Zane Gramley had half of the Lewistown hits with three.
Burnham 8, Milroy 1
BURNHAM – Burnham’s Lincoln Ruble had a night to remember.
Ruble pitched and batted Burnham to an 8-1 victory over Milroy. Ruble went the whole game on the mound. He struck out four, walked one and gave up six hits.
With the bat, Ruble went 4-for-4, scored two runs and had an RBI. Liam Shaffer, a rookie, was Burnham’s only other multiple hitter with two. Shaffer and Chase Leister each had doubles for the winners.
Blaze Shreffler had two of the six hits for Milroy.
Wednesday’s Game
Belltown 10, Belleville 9
BELLTOWN – Belleville almost pulled off the upset of the season on Wednesday as it just missed getting by Belltown, 10-9. The game ended after six innings due to darkness.
The game was tied 7-7 after four innings. Belltown, the defending league champions, scored three in the bottom of the fifth and Belleville, which had only one win, made it close with two in the top of the sixth. Belltown had seven hits with Logan Ruth leading the way with three. Reese Christine added two more. They both had doubles. Belleville had nine hits with Wyatt Kauffman and Jaden King each getting two. They each had a triple.
Belltown used three pitchers with Kyler Baker getting the win in relief.
Reedsville routs M-town
MCVEYTOWN – McVeytown and Reedsville played back-to-back nights in each other’s ball park the past two nights.
The outcome was the same each night as Reedsville, the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League leaders, won another lopsided game on Wednesday, 23-5. The score on Tuesday was 13-3.
The game didn’t get out of hand until the fifth inning. Reedsville led after four, 11-5. But in the fifth, Reedsville crossed the plate 12 times. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Reedsville, which finished with 14 hits, had nine players get in on the action. Madden Weaver, Gavin Powell, Austin McKnight, Nate Parkes and Easton Zook each had two hits.
Weaver had a big day with a double and a home run. For Weaver, it was his first home run of the year. It came in the second inning, a two-run shot.
Powell, Parkes, Zook and Zander Lawson each had doubles.
McVeytown had six hits with Carson Cherry getting two. Trayven Shaffer also smashed a double for McVeytown.
Parkes went three innings and got the win. McKnight closed out the game for Reedsville. McVeytown used five pitchers.
