Jared Waerea-Hargreaves and Spencer Leniu have both received fines for their roles in the scuffle that saw them sent to the sin-bin late in the Panthers’ win over the Roosters.
Leniu was hit with a pair of second offence grade one contrary contact charges and offered two $1800 fines.
Waerea-Hargreaves, meanwhile, is perhaps lucky to not be spending time on the sidelines, hit with the same charges and offered two $3000 fines for third and subsequent offences.
One of the charges was for throwing a water bottle at Leniu – which actually hit Jaeman Salmon – and the other for his involvement in the resulting melee.
George Burgess was banned for two matches in 2016 for throwing a water bottle at Kane Evans.
Roosters coach Trent Robinson described the incident as “great theatre”.
“That’s why people enjoy watching footy, there was nothing in it I don’t think from either end. There wasn’t much to it, it was sort of heated there.
“Jared was getting his bumpers up like every guy does for every tackle they run into and copped Moses (Leota) there – that’s a forwards battle. And then it flared up, good theatre, move on.”
In other sanctions from the same clash, Jake Turpin was fined $3000 for an earlier shoulder charge on Salmon, while Nat Butcher also copped a $3000 fine for a crusher on Lindsay Smith.
