Dacres-Cogley was thought to be close to a transfer to Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen during the January window but remained at Prenton Park for the remainder of the season which ended with Rovers finishing in a disappointing 12th position.
Although interest from beyond the border appears to have cooled the 27-year-old right back is still a prized asset with Bristol Rovers the latest club thought to be chasing his signature.
Dacres-Cogley moved to Prenton Park in 2021 after being released by Birmingham City and has played in all-but one of the Wirral outfit’s 92 league matches since his arrival.
But despite his success at Tranmere he is out of contract at the end of the month and is due to become available on a free transfer as things stand.
Although The Gas are currently the favourites to seal the deal, manager Joey Barton may have to see off competition from fellow third tier clubs to land Dacres-Cogley’s signature with Port Vale, Burton Albion and Lincoln City all thought to be keeping tabs on his situation.
The Coventry-born defender came through the academy ranks at Birmingham City, joining as a teenager and signed a professional contract for the first time in 2015.
He had a loan spell with Crawley Town of League Two in the 2019–20 season, before joining Tranmere Rovers in 2021.
Rovers released 10 players following the conclusion of the 2022-23 season with new manager Ian Dawes keen to ring the changes at Prenton Park.
Former Everton goalkeeper Mateusz Hewelt, 26, was one of those being let go.
Jake Burton, Joel Mumbongo, Kyle Jameson, Jon Nolan, Flo Hoti, Ryan Stratulis, Max Fisher, Arthur Lomax and Jack Williams have also been released.
Midfielder Chris Merrie, 24, has agreed to extend his stay at Tranmere with veteran goalkeeper Joe Murphy’s future still undecided.
