May 18—COLONIE — Southwest Airlines starting July 11 will begin offering daily direct flights to and from Ronald Reagan International Airport in Washington, D.C.
Flights will depart from Albany at 2:55 p.m., landing at Washington, D.C. at 4:40 p.m
They will leave Washington, D.C. at 12:35 p.m., and arrive in Albany at 1:55 p.m.
Airport officials said the decision is a good indication of Southwest’s confidence in the continued recovery of Albany air travel following the COVID-19 pandemic.
They expect this summer to be the busiest travel period since the pandemic began more than three years ago.
In addition to Washington, D.C., Southwest also offers service to Orlando, Fort Myers/Naples and Tampa, Fla., as well as to Denver, Las Vegas and Nashville, Tenn.
Southwest Airlines continues to be the largest air carrier at Albany International Airport handling more than 600,000 travelers arriving and departing from Albany during 2022.
A total of 2,394,928 passengers traveled through Albany International Airport in 2022.
United, Delta, American, JetBlue and Allegiant also serve the airport.
