Coun. Marissa Vaughan updated South Huron councillors at the June 5 meeting about the playground equipment, which was installed in 2003.
“It’s looking kind of tired and it’s time to replace it,” she said.
The Dashwood community advisory committee, which consists of members from South Huron and Bluewater, passed a motion at its May 18 meeting requesting the councils from both municipalities to consider using funds from the Dashwood Hydro Electric Fund to contribute to a project to replace the equipment.
Playground equipment typically last 15 to 20 years, committee members noted. As well, the bridge to access the playground does not meet accessibility standards, and the installation of a culvert is being considered.

South Huron and Bluewater, which share the facility, have each so far allocated $30,000 to the replacement project, which was originally included in the 2022 budget but has been carried over to this year.
Staff are also exploring grant opportunities for playgrounds, as well as fundraising options.

She returned to the municipality as deputy treasurer in the spring of 2020 and held that position until her June 5 appointment as treasurer.
