Visitors to Vivid Sydney, taking place in Sydney from May 26 to June 17, will be able to immerse themselves in a new kind of audio experience, thanks to the world-first, patented technology of Singapore start-up Cinewav.
The startup, whose technology synchronises audio between mobile phones and any large scale display, is partnering with Australia’s biggest festival celebrating Light, Music, Ideas and Food for the second year running, following a successful launch in 2022.
Cinewav will provide high quality, synchronised audio to 10 large scale exhibits at Vivid Sydney 2023, including drone shows and building projections. Visitors will be able to enjoy immersive audio using their own phones perfectly in sync with the projection or drone show. They can stand anywhere and take in the whole experience without missing any sound or visual cues.
Cinewav’s technology works by using a proprietary algorithm that detects the latency between the phone and the display and adjusts the audio accordingly. This ensures that the audio is always in sync with the visual, regardless of the distance or the network conditions.
“We are thrilled to partner with Vivid Sydney and showcase our innovative technology to millions of visitors. We believe that Cinewav can enhance any large-scale display with immersive audio, and create a more engaging and memorable experience for the audience,” said Cinewav’s co-founder, Christian Lee.
Vivid Sydney’s Festival Director, Gill Minervini, said that Cinewav’s technology would help bring the activations and installations to life along the 8.5km Light Walk. “Vivid Sydney will once again illuminate and energise Sydney’s CBD with the annual celebration of creativity, innovation and technology. We have expanded and evolved the festival this year and curated an incredible program for 2023 that we can’t wait to showcase to Vivid Sydney audiences.
“We’re excited to continue our successful relationship with Cinewav to inspire and delight festival goers with cutting edge technology and creativity. Cinewav’s technology allows us to deliver audio that matches the quality and scale of the visuals of Vivid Sydney, offering an exciting and immersive experience,” Minervini said.
This year’s Vivid Sydney, in its 13th year, boasts the biggest programme yet, and aims to fuse art, innovation and technology in in collaboration with some of the most boundary-pushing artists, thinkers, musicians and culinary experts.
