In supporting the Sharks From the Heart partners, NRL and NRLW players and Sharks Have Heart staff have been out and about during what is a special week for the club in highlighting its community engagement.
In continuing their involvement with a number of worthy causes, local organisations and with various initiatives, while in another reminder of the benefit and support provided, Sharks Have Heart have been busy once again in the community in the lead up to the Sharks Have Heart Round game against the Bulldogs on Sunday.
Kicking off the week on Tuesday, Sharks NRL squad members Braden Hamlin-Uele and Kayal Iro visited 2023 From the Heart Partner Sutherland Hospital to in spreading their brand of goodwill and also in helping to raise awareness around Men’s Health Week.
The Sharks players participated in blood pressure checks, posed for photos with hospital staff, before visiting the Children’s ward to hand out posters while trying to lift the spirits of those currently experiencing ill health.
They also dropped by the ICU ward, entertaining and showing off their limited knowledge of CPR to the nurses on duty.
The following day Sharks Indigenous Programs coordinator Jada Taylor attended the Gymea Community Aid and Information Service’s Empowering Youth to Inspire Change (EYTIC) showcase.
Another 2023 From the Heart Partner, Gymea Community Aid conducts EYTIC as a youth ambassadors’ program which is delivered to a community youth group, as well as in five schools, three of those in the Sutherland Shire, with two more in the St George area.
EYTIC is a community harmony and social cohesion project that was co designed and led by community youth leaders from the respective schools, with the ambassadors supported to deliver awareness raising activities within their school communities in an effort to promote social cohesion and community harmony.
The showcase saw students share their projects and activities with special guests including Sutherland Shire Mayor Carmello Pesce and Georges River Deputy Mayor Kathryn Landsberry.
In representing the Sharks, Jada spoke about her role at the Club and the focus Sharks Have Heart have in addressing racism and promoting social cohesion around Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
In addition to supporting From the Heart partners, Sharks Have Heart also conducted Mega Jaws cheerleading and skills clinics, while also coordinating a junior league blitz where the entire NRLW team visited local district clubs.
The continuing work, community engagement and adequate staffing for Sharks Have Heart in supporting the From the Heart partners and other various organisations and initiatives, is only possible with adequate funding, with the Show Your Heart campaign an opportunity to show your support.
