Several MPs from Dorset did not vote on a Privileges Committee report into Boris Johnson’s conduct, with only two MPs voting to approve the report. The result was announced in the chamber on Monday evening (June 19) as 354 to seven, with a majority of 347.
Christchurch MP Christopher Chope, South Dorset MP Richard Drax, West Dorset MP Chris Loder, Mid Dorset and North Poole MP Michael Tomlinson are among the Conservative MPs who opted not to vote on the report. Sir Conor Burns, MP for Bournemouth West, did not vote on the report nearly two weeks after the former Prime Minister named Sir Burns on his resignation honours list.
Simon Hoare, the MP for North Dorset, tweeted he supported the report but was unable to vote on the report due to family illness. He was paired with a non-Conservative MP who also could not vote. The only two MPs from Dorset who voted on the report, Sir Robert Syms and Tobias Ellwood, both voted for the report.

Rishi Sunak, along with the majority of Tory MPs, opted to stay away from the vote on the Privileges Committee’s findings on Mr Johnson’s conduct. Mr Johnson suffered a humiliating defeat in the Commons vote, with only seven MPs voting against the Privileges Committee’s conclusions.
He will be denied special access to Parliament usually granted to former MPs after the sanction recommended by the Tory-majority panel was endorsed by 354 votes. The committee also concluded that Mr Johnson should have faced a 90-day suspension for misleading the House when he told the Commons that covid rules were obeyed in No 10 despite parties taking place.
But he evaded that punishment by having quit as an MP after being told in advance of its findings. The initial division list released by the Commons authorities contained 352 names in the ayes and six for the noes. It may be updated further by parliamentary officials to include any missing names to ensure the numbers match the ones announced in the chamber.
