Geelong West is right in the mix for the GFL finals and could take a big step up after the bye with a huge list of players getting through injury woes.
Following Saturday’s stunning come-from-behind win over South Barwon, Geelong West kept itself firmly in the hunt for finals at the season’s first break.
The Giants sit in a group of sides with 3-3 records clumped from fifth to eighth, along with South Barwon, Leopold and Bell Park, with Colac one win above the pack.
And Greg Mellor’s side promises to be stronger in two weeks for a crunch game against Leopold.
Titit Nyak is closing in on a return from a reconstructed knee, Werribee VFL regular Noah Gribble is working his way back from a foot injury and Riley Welsh should play in round 7 if he overcomes a sore quad.
Mellor also said ball winner Ethan Liddle, as well as Riley Moore, Tannar Stone and Tex Mitchell are all on the way back.
“Titit Nyak should be getting close, he will be close to playing (after the bye) which will be exciting,” the coach said.
“Riley Moore, Tanner Stone and Tex Mitchell should be all back too or thereabouts, we will sort of know more during the week.
“The round 7 bye is a good one for everyone, especially those annoying niggling injuries, it gives you a chance to reset your group.”
Mellor praised Geelong-listed VFL player Tanner Lewis for his job going head-to-head with Swans star Fraser Fort on Saturday.
“It was Tanner Lews’ best game but that probably means he will be in the VFL next game,” Mellor said.
