Sandown Hillside preview and tips: Wednesday, June 14

Racing is on the Sandown Hillside track on Wednesday, with an eight-event card on what is likely to be a Soft 6 surface.

With the rail out 10m, you’d imagine jockeys will be using plenty of the track in the straight but keep an eye on the early races for any pattern.

BEST BET

R3 No. 3 – Ferlazzo @ $2

Scratchings have seen her price come down to around even-money but anything north of $1.80 looks okay for this Tivaci filly. She just fell short in a similar affair last time after taking a long time to wind up, but the bigger track and the addition of blinkers for the first time are both positives. Shinn takes over and the stable couldn’t have her much fitter at her fifth run for the campaign.

R6 No. 12 – Mr Mojo Risin’ @ $3.90

Jockey of the moment, Wiremu Pinn, should give this Kiwi galloper every chance from barrier one. He’s a decent beginner who should land in the first four or five and he should be fit enough fourth-up to get some of the backmarkers out of their comfort zone a fair way from home. A Soft 6 deck is perfect and this is certainly no harder than the race he finished 2nd in here last start when just behind the smart Cardigan Queen.

R8 No. 7 – Feuermond @ $17

He’s an enigma this horse, but his best is good enough to be running top three in a midweek BM70. Two-back at Mornington he charged home from the rear to run 2nd to Convener in BM78 grade – a horse who then started $5 in a much stronger Saturday race at Flemington. Feuermond’s last-start flop at Warrnambool is forgivable given the Heavy 8 conditions and rise in distance. He’s been freshened for this, with his most recent victory coming off a very similar break.
