The Samsung Galaxy S23 may be the latest handset from the Korean colossus, but last year’s excellent Galaxy S22 Ultra received a solid price cut today that drops it to price parity with the standard Galaxy S23.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra, the top-of-the-line Samsung phone from 2022, is now 42% off at Amazon. This drops its price from US$1199.99 to $699.99, which is the same price as many new smartphones (including Samsung’s own base Galaxy S23).
Compared to most smartphones, the Galaxy S22 Ultra is still an absolute beast. As Samsung’s former top-tier flagship, the S22 Ultra sports a 6.8-inch 3088×1440 (QHD+) plus that hit up to 1788 nits (1111 nits on all-white backgrounds) in our tests. The AMOLED panel has a 120 Hz refresh rate and excellent color accuracy.
Inside the handset, a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 powers everything. This chip, coupled with 8 GB of LPDDR5 and 128 GB of UFS 3.1 storage, makes the Galaxy S22 Ultra one of the most powerful Android smartphones on the market, even a year and a half after its release.
The star of the smartphone (as has been the case with phones for the past couple of years) is its impressive camera array. The Galaxy S22 Ultra has a 108 MP F/1.8 shooter, a 10 MP F/4.9 lens with 10x optical zoom, a 10 MP f/2.4 camera with 3x optical zoom, and a 12 MP f/2.2 ultrawide lens on the back. The selfie camera is a 40 MP shooter that bins pixels down to a 10 MP image. The phone can record 8K video at 24 FPS or 4K at 60 FPS.
The Galaxy S22 Ultra is available in Phantom White, Phantom Black, Green, or Burgundy.
You can purchase the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra for US$699.99 (42% off) at Amazon.
I’ve been a computer geek my entire life. After graduating college with a degree in Mathematics, I worked in finance and banking a few years before taking a job as a database administrator. I started working with Notebookcheck in October of 2016 and have enjoyed writing news and reviews. I’ve also written for other outlets including UltrabookReview and GeeksWorldWide, focusing on consumer guidance and video gaming. My areas of interest include the business side of technology, retro gaming, Linux, and innovative gadgets. When I’m not writing on electronics or tinkering with a device, I’m either outside with my family, enjoying a decade-old video game, or playing drums or piano.
