“At the beginning of my career, I had a hard time getting clothes, I couldn’t afford them on my own, and the other girls were loaned clothes. But nobody really thought that a Mexican woman was going to last, so why give me a dress?” commented the actress.
She then spoke of the look she wore to Cannes in 1999 which, she confessed, she created herself, “I was taking a chance again, no one was doing this. I took a sweater that’s supposed to be worn with something underneath, because it only had two buttons, a skirt, and I created my own look.”

On that occasion, Salma wore a T-shirt-style cardigan and a satin maxi skirt, garments that she combined with jewelry and that, according to ‘Vogue’, “was writing the new era of fashion”.
Finally, the Mexican mentioned: “Little did I know that one day ‘Vogue’ was going to say that one of my iconic looks was the result of my creativity, and in reality, many of them were simply my creativity trying to fight with the fact that I had no many resources. I am very proud that it was in my imagination that I created these looks.”
