Following an investigation by the Rockford PD Violent Crimes Unit, an arrest has been made in a shooting that happened earlier this month.
Woman Shot While Sitting in Car Outside Her House
According to a press release from the Rockford Police, a 42-year-old woman was sitting in a car outside of her residence around 10:25 pm on May 2 when she was shot in the neck.
The fem was transported to a local hospital for her gunshot wounds, but no information about her condition was provided in the press release.
Suspect in Shooting Knew the Victim
During their investigation, the Rockford Police Violent Crimes Unit identified the shooter as 59-year-old Joe Williams from Rockford and said the “suspect and the victim were known to each other.”

Rockford Police took Williams into custody on May 18 and is being held in the Winnebago County Jail.
Guns Found Inside Home of Shooting Suspect
During an investigation of Joe Williams’ residence, Rockford Police discovered two handguns and two shotguns, according to the press release.
Joe Williams, 59 of Rockford, has been charged with:
- Attempted Murder
- Aggravated Battery with a Firearm
