The Gympie Connection Road will be closed in two stages to allow further construction of the new Gympie interchange on the Gympie Bypass.
Interchange works include construction of two new 130 metre dual lane bridges to carry the new Bruce Highway over Gympie Connection Road, and an upgrade to a section of Gympie Connection Road at Victory Heights.
Federal Member for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien is advising that Gympie Connection Road will be temporarily closed to through traffic between Tin Can Bay Road and Browns Road for about two weeks from next Saturday, 24 June to Sunday, 9 July 2023.
Access will remain open between Ascot Road and Old Goomboorian Road under a single lane closure.
“For Safety reasons, Gympie Connection Road will be closed in two stages to allow work to continue on the new interchange,” Mr O’Brien said.
“The required work involves removing and replacing a concrete drainage culvert on Gympie Connection Road near the Ascot and Old Goomboorian Roads intersection, and completing an upgrade of the intersection, including median and kerbing works, installation of lighting, traffic signals and permanent signage.”
“Traffic control will remain on Gympie Connection Road following this work to ensure motorists and roadworkers are safe while work continues in the area.”
Mr O’Brien also advised that Gympie Connection Road will also be temporarily closed for another week to through traffic between Ascot Road/Old Goomboorian Road and Browns Road from Sunday 9 July to Sunday 16 July 2023.
The section of Gympie Connection Road between Tin Can Bay Road and Ascot Road/Old Goomboorian Road will re-open on Sunday 16 July with access via Ascot Road and Old Goomboorian Road.
