Raleigh, US-headquartered Mackay Communications, also known as Mackay Marine, is expanding in the UK with new offices following its acquisition of London-based Kilo Marine Electronics
Kilo has been renamed Mackay Marine UK and is part of Mackay Marine Europe. Combined, the group has enlarged its UK footprint, adding service stations in Liverpool and Teesport to Kilo’s existing depots in Edinburgh, Glasgow, London, Southampton and Portsmouth. The group said there are more on the horizon to provide services to maritime users elsewhere in the UK.
“Shipping customers have long encouraged Mackay to provide comprehensive communications and navigation products and services in England, Wales and Scotland,” said Mackay Marine Europe managing director Nick Pope.
“Mackay has collaborated with Kilo Marine for years with their expertise. Kilo Marine thus provides a solid foundation on which Mackay can build a full range of customer solutions.”
Mackay Communications provides satellite communications hardware including antennas, terminals and radiocommunications, handheld and bridge-mounted devices. It also provides and services navigation electronics on vessel bridges including ECDIS, radar, AIS, gyro compasses, sonar and speed logs.
“Kilo joined Mackay one year ago in March 2022,” said Mackay UK general manager Warren Haills.
“The terms of the agreement included a gradual shift to the Mackay brand, allowing customers and staff to acclimatise to the changes. The result being we fully retained, and added, employees, vendors and customers.”
