Rivers United To Earn Over N250m From CAF

The 2021/22 Nigeria Professional Football League champions, Rivers United will receive Five hundred and fifty thousand dollars ($550,000) equivalent of N253 million (at CBN rate) from CAF for reaching the quarter-final of the CAF Confederation Cup this season, BSNSports com.ng can report.
This was confirmed as CAF on Friday released the breakdown of the prize-money for CAF Champions League and Confederation Cup..
The Nigeria Professional Football League champions were the only club from the country to reach the latter stages of the CAF Champions League or CAF Confederation Cup while other three representatives were unable to reach the group stages.
The Confederation of African Football increased the prize money for the competitions and revealed the new financial rewards on Friday.
The winners of the competition, for which Young Africans will face Algeria’s USM Alger in the final, will receive $2m, up from $1.25m last year, while the losing finalists will take home $1m.
The losing semi-finalists will each be paid $750,000, with the teams who were unable to go beyond the group stages receiving $400,000.
In the Champions League, the winners will be rewarded with $4m, an increase from the previous $2.5m, and the losing finalists will get $2m.
The losing semi-finalists are guaranteed $1.2m, with the quarter-finals receiving $900,000 and group phase teams getting $700,000 each.
The finalists of the CAF Champions League will emerge this weekend.
Egypt’s Al Ahly beat Esperance 4-0 on aggregate with a 1-0 win on Friday night after winning the first leg of their semi-final tie 3-0 in Tunisia. Al Ahly will then face the winners between South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and holders Wydad Casablanca which holds today (Saturday) after a 0-0 draw in Morocco last week.
