MILROY — It wasn’t a very pretty game, but Reedsville will take it. Reedsville increased its record to 14-1 with a 6-5 win over Belltown, Sunday night, in the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League.
Reedsville led 6-3 after four innings, but Belltown made it close with two runs in the fifth. Austin McKnight came in relief in the fifth frame with the score 6-5 and closed out the game for Reedsville.
Madden Weaver started for the league leaders and got the win. Weaver gave up three hits, walked four and struck out seven. McKnight didn’t allow a hit or a run, but he did walk four.
Reedsville scored a run in the first inning as Carter Smith singled and came around to score as he was caught in a run down and then Belltown threw the ball away.
Reedsville was ahead, 4-0, going into the top of the fourth. Belltown made it a 4-3 game with three runs. There was only one hit in the inning as Reedsville walked two, hit a batter, had a wild pitch and committed an error.
In the bottom of the fourth, Reedsville added two more runs thanks to a walk and two errors from the Belltown defense.
Nate Parkes had three of the seven hits for Reedsville. Belltown only had three hits with singles from Reese Christine, Logan Ruth and Lucas Shawver.
Beaver Springs 8, Burnham 4
LEWISTOWN – Something had to give.
Beaver Springs and Burnham came into Sunday’s game with both teams riding six-game winning streaks.
Springs came out on top 8-4 and the two teams are now tied for second place with 11-4 records. Reedsville has a three-game lead over both Beaver Springs and Burnham.
Braxton Smith picked up the win for Beaver Springs. He went five innings, struck out two, walked two and gave up 11 hits. Derek Wert, the rookie, pitched the sixth and his older brother, Noah, worked the seventh and got the save.
Beaver Springs had only six hits, but three of them went for triples. Smashing the ball were Smith, who had two hits, Colten Aumiller and Wyatt Shellenberger. Springs were aided by nine walks and two hit batters.
Burnham had 12 hits with Jayden Smith and Evan Breon each getting three. Chase Leister also was a multiple hitter with two.
Reedsville 13, Belleville 7
BELLEVILLE – Reedsville downed Belleville, 13-7, on Thursday. The game was put under protest and it was not ruled upon until Sunday.
The game was close as Reedsville only led 8-7 after five innings, but Reedsville pulled away with two runs in the sixth and three in the seventh.
Easton Zook pitched the middle innings for Reedsville and got the win. He gave up two hits, walked four and struck out two.
Reedsville finished with eight hits. Madden Weaver, Gavin Powell and Wyatt Parkes each had two hits. Both of Powell’s went for doubles.
Belleville had four hits, all singles, from Jaden King, Mason Joyce, Eli Henderson and Conner Taylor.
