BELLTOWN — Last year, Belltown and Reedsville battled it out for the Mifflin County Babe Ruth League championship. When the two teams met in Belltown for the first time, Belltown won 7-6 in extra innings.
From that point on, the two teams went in different directions. Belltown went on to win the league title and Reesdsville finished second.
On Wednesday night, Reedsville, which came into the game in first place with a 7-1 record, went home still in first place with a 9-4 victory.
Belltown led 3-2 going into the fourth inning, but Reedsville scored six runs and had 11 men come to the plate. Reedsville had five hits in the inning. Gavin Powell had a double and a single and knocked in one run. Easton Zook had an RBI single. Easton’s younger brother Jude Zook had a single and the big blast came from Wyatt Parkes, a two-run triple. Belltown didn’t help its cause with two errors.
Reedsville finished the contest with 11 hits. Powell had three hits, while Madden Weaver had two. Austin McKnight had an RBI double in the third inning.
Belltown had just four hits. Reese Christine had two base knocks, including a double in the third inning.
The other two hits for Belltown were from Logan Baumgardner and Kaden Baker, who smashed a double in the fifth.
Wyatt Parkes got the win in relief as he came in the third inning and only allowed one run and two hits.
Beaver Springs 17,
Belleville 3
BELLEVILLE — Beaver Springs won its second game in a row with a 17-3 victory over Belleville. The game ended after five innings due to the 10-run rule. Before this two-game winning streak, Springs had lost three in a row.
Noah Wert picked up the win for Beaver Springs with four innings of work, He struck out five, walked three and gave up six hits.
Beaver Springs had eight hits with Landon Hartman getting two. Braxton Smith nailed a triple and Wert had a double.
Belleville had six hits with Jaden King the only multiple hitter for the Big Valley club with two.
Strodes Mills 14, Lewistown 4
LEWISTOWN — Strodes Mills took care of business and remained on the heels of league-leading Reedsville with a 14-4 win over Lewistown. The game was finished after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Strodes is now 9-2 and tallied 10 hits. Joel Beamer, Michael McNitt and Evan Strohecker each had two. McNitt and Jaxson Strohecker each had doubles. Karsen Goss had his first two-RBI game.
Chase Moore, who got the win, pitched into the fourth inning and was relieved by Ben Moore and then Joel Beamer.
Lewistown only had two hits, singles from Zane Gramley and Landon Bowen.
Burnham 20, McVeytown 10
MCVEYTOWN – There was a lot of hitting going on between Burnham and McVeytown. The two teams combined for 30 hits and 30 runs. Burnham came out on top of the slugfest with a 20-10 win. The game was over after five innings due to the 10-run rule.
Jayden Smith led the hit parade for Burnham with four and two doubles. Carter Yohn, Liam Shaffer, Evan Breon and Landon Haigh each had three, Lincoln Ruble joined the list of multiple hitters for Burnham with two. Hyphen, Breon and Haigh each had doubles.
Nazae Traxler had three hits for McVeytown and had two triples. Elliott Yetter, Carson Cherry and Gathin Kauffman each had two hits for McVeytown.
Chase Leister got the win and Haigh finished the game for Burnham.
