- Alex Rasic charged over one-punch killing
- He is the son of late high-ranking Rebel bikie
The son of a late bikie boss dubbed ‘The King’ has been charged over the ‘one-punch’ death of a father-of-two outside a restaurant.
Michael Hayes, 39, died on Thursday after he was allegedly hit outside the Destino Wine and Cocktail Bar at Sanctuary Cove, in the Gold Coast last Saturday night.
He’d been on life support but succumbed to his injuries at the Gold Coast University Hospital.
Alex Rasic, 24, was arrested on Thursday and charged with unlawful striking causing death.
Rasic did not appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday and was remanded in custody to appear again at Southport Magistrates Court on June 7, the Gold Coast Bulletin reported.
The 24-year-old is the son of the late Simon Rasic who died of natural causes in 2014 aged 43.
Simon, known as ‘The King’, was the national sergeant-of-arms of the Rebels outlaw motorcycle gang, once the largest in Australia with over 2,000 members.
His father and Alex’s grandfather is former Socceroo coach Rale Rasic.
Alex was pictured carrying his father’s coffin at his funeral dressed in expensive designer sunglasses and with a diamond encrusted watch on his wrist.
He has kept a low profile on social media recently but pictures from just a few years ago show he was living a life of luxury.
He was seen posing in front of a yellow supercar in one shot, while in another he relaxes with friends on an extravagant Sydney Harbour boat cruise.
On a trip to Perth, pictures show him sipping drinks with friends in one hotel room that boasted a spa, while other snaps show Alex and his friends holding up wads of cash.
In 2016, Alex shared a heartfelt tribute to his late father.
‘His presence is always there… I still see him riding his dirt bike in the green land of Cecil Park! Driving his rodeo with a huge smile on his face! The day he put dreadlocks in his hair wearing an earthy brown poncho!’ he wrote.
‘How can I ever forget his precious gifts an old sword along with an old black motorbike jacket. The scent of his JAZZ fragrance he always wore! And most of all he loved with his heart on his sleeve! Never will he be forgotten. He is free as a bird.’
