The accomplishments of Berks high school athletes never cease to impress.
That becomes especially apparent at the conclusion of each school year when viewing the resumes of the nominees for the Reading Eagle Athlete of the Year awards.
This year is no different.
The list of contenders for the 18th annual awards is full of All-Americans, All-State selections, Berks Players of the Year, and state and District 3 champions.
Nearly three dozen athletes have been nominated by their schools for the male and female awards, which are based on athletic performance, character and leadership displayed throughout the 2022-23 school year. Each BCIAA school was invited to nominate up to four athletes.
Each of the two award recipients will receive a $1,000 scholarship from the Reading Eagle and Colonial Fitness, the award co-sponsor.
The finalists and award winners are determined by a selection committee that includes the Reading Eagle sport staff and a representative from Colonial Fitness.
Profiles of the finalists will appear in the Reading Eagle starting June 19.
The two award recipients will be revealed at a get-together at Colonial Fitness on June 29, then posted on readingeagle.com.
The 10 finalists will receive a plaque of recognition.
Last year’s winners were Gov. Mifflin’s Nick Singleton and Twin Valley’s Natali Foster.
