Australia’s first all Indigenous race team, Racing Together has shown off its new headquarters at Queensland Raceway.
The team, which came to life in late 2020 to provide motorsport pathways for First Nations youngsters, has moved from the Gold Coast to Ipswich.
Since its inception three years ago, Racing Together had been setup at Norwell Motorplex, where it has built and prepared race cars to compete in the Queensland and Northern Territory based Hyundai Excel Racing series.
At least three Racing Together Hyundai Excels will be in action in 2023 with Braedyn Cidoni and Karlai Warner confirmed as drivers.
But as the program continues to grow, larger facilities were required and through the help of Queensland Raceway owner Tony Quinn, the team will be based at the “Paperclip”.
Racing Together co-founder Garry Connelly said the bigger HQ will help take the program to the “next level”.
“Tony Quinn has been an amazing supporter of Racing Together and thanks to his generosity, we have been able to move into larger facilities than where we were previously,” Connelly said.
“Having a dedicated space to be able to run Racing Together will enable us to take the program to the next level, and provide an environment for our inductees that fully represents a race team working environment.”
Although the Racing Together program is no longer based at Norwell Motorplex, Connelly confirmed 2014 Bathurst 1000 winner Paul Morris will continue to provide a helping hand.
“A big thank you to Paul Morris and the crew at Norwell for accommodating us since we started a few years ago, and Paul will still be helping with driver training and mentoring the program participants,” he said.
“When we launched in 2020, there was virtually no indigenous participation in motorsport, so we’re proud we’ve been able to encourage first nations Australians to become involved in the sport, and four of the inductees from our original intake have already found employment within the sport.”
