Four police officers have been injured, two seriously, after an allegedly stolen truck rammed their cars.
Two police officers were trying to arrest the driver of the truck along Goombungee Meringandan Rd, Meringandan, north of Toowoomba, about 1.30pm on Wednesday.
When the two officers approached the truck, the 45-year-old man allegedly drove at the two police officers and their car before leaving the scene.
The two officers were left seriously injured.
The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue Helicopter flew a 54-year-old man to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane.
He has serious injuries to his leg and possible internal injuries and is in a serious but stable condition.
A 56-year-old man was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in Toowoomba.
Superintendent Douglas McDonald said both officers worked at the Toowoomba Property Crime Squad and had been investigating reports of stolen trucks at Oakey earlier on Wednesday.
He said shortly after the two officers were struck in Meringandan, the 45-year-old driver of the truck allegedly hit another two police cars and came to a stop on Paradise Road, Goombungee.
Superintendent McDonald said two police officers suffered minor injuries caused by the airbags in both cars being deployed during the ramming.
The 45-year-old man was arrested at the scene. No charges have been laid and investigations are ongoing.
Superintendent McDonald said another allegedly stolen truck was also intercepted by police earlier on Wednesday connected to the Oakey theft.
“It shows how dangerous that police work is, certainly trying to stop these stolen vehicles,” he said.
“It’s really important to get in touch with immediate family officers and wrap them in our support as well.”
