- A car fell 15m down an embankment in south-east QLD
- The driver, aged in his 20s, is in a critical condition
A man is fighting for his life in hospital after his car plunged 15metres down an embankment in the middle of the night.
The driver, aged in his 20s, was heading east in the Lockyer Valley in south-east Queensland when his car careered off the road about 9:30pm on Saturday.
It’s understood he was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The Toowoomba-based RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was called to the scene, along with fire and emergency crews and paramedics.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Service set up a safety line down the embankment so personnel could safely reach the driver.
Paramedics, a critical care doctor and flight paramedic from LifeFlight treated him at the scene before he was carefully brought up the embankment.
He was then transferred into the waiting helicopter.
The man was flown to the Princess Alexandra Hospital in a critical condition.
