A meeting of four world leaders in Australia later this month will mean significant airspace disruption in and around Sydney and Canberra.
Known as the Quad Leaders Summit, the meeting will be attended by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Kishida Fumio and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to AIP documents issued by Airservices Australia, the summit will require the Sydney-Canberra region to be subject to Air Defence Identification Zones (ADIZ) and Temporary Restricted Areas (TRA) across 22-24 May.
ADIZ Delta and Echo, which apply to Sydney, will require flight plans to be submitted for all flights (including private VFR) for transit within the ADIZ, and all flights to adhere strictly to the tracks and altitudes in the plan.
ADIZ Delta and and Echo overlay Bankstown, Camden, Wedderburn and Richmond airports, with movements out of Wedderburn permitted only with a filed plan and two-way communications with ATC.
AIP SUP H25-23 also details TRA-SHAMAN One, Two and Three, which effectively bans non-essential flights across a wide area of Sydney, to be activated by NOTAM.
Similar restriction will be applied to Canberra, which will be subject to ADIZ Alpha and Bravo, detailed in AIP SUP H24-23.
In this instance, the ADIZ applies across all controlled and uncontrolled airports within 120 nm of CB, which includes Wagga Wagga, Shellharbour, Cowra and many others. ALAs are also subject to the ADIZ and TRA.
Canberra will also be subject at times to TRA-CHIEFTAIN One and Two, which will also exclude all non-essential flights and will be activated by NOTAM.
Pilots of both GA and recreational aircraft are being urged to make themselves familiar with the ADIZ and TRA dimensions and requirements in AIP SUP H25-23 and AIP SUP H24-23.
