Form analyst Shayne O’Cass runs the rule over Tuesday’s meeting at Kembla.
BEST BET
Race 4 No. 2: Cap Ferrat
Snitzel colt out of a stakes-winning mare whose ‘aunt’ is Makybe Diva hence the $1.4m price-tag. Has talent beyond the provincials.

Placed two of three starts here at his home track and was good in town last start. Drawn well.
VALUE
Race 8 No. 7: Kozluca
‘Figures’ don’t read too well but he is third-up into the preparation off two good runs at Wyong. Stable is in red-hot form.

INSIDE MAIL
RACE 1
Runwiththetide is a locally trained son of Silver Slipper winner Headwater. Two of the colt’s three career starts have been at home for a debut (distant) second to the smart The Novelist and then that first-up third to another handy horse called The King. Top run in town on May 10. Doraskaya, the one on the Mahtoum colours, has a misleading C.V; five starts for no placings is not a true reflection of her ‘talent’ , much less her prospects of running well here. Blackall is winless after 27 starts which is quite staggering really.
Bet: Runwiththetide to win
RACE 2
Sinner, a horse who shares the same third dam as Saintly, was tipped out after a short, sharp and ‘okay’ first preparation but like all the Joe Pride team, they always come back better the next time around. That much was evident with Sinner making up plenty of ground first-up here over 1000m. Smart Legend has been trialling the house down at Randwick. The Les Bridge trained son of So You Think has loads more ability than his record currently suggests. Afterboomer went toe to toe with a handy horse on debut. Kapunda has claims.
Bet: Sinner to win
RACE 3
Stars And Bars was a dual acceptor on this card – he’ll run here despite the wide alley which is hardly panic stations stuff given it is a small field, it’s Kembla and Jason Collett rides. Can’t really vouch for the quality of the opposition at Newcastle last start by he thrashed them like a $1.28 shot ought to. Confident and progressive horse now. Moorestown is a Kerry Parker trained local whose first-up ‘seventh’ was better than it looks. There was a bit of ‘next time’ about it to be honest. Sir Kerm has a bit of X-Factor about him. Remember his debut?
Bet: Stars And Bars to win, Moorestown to place
RACE 4
Cap Ferrat was sold for $1.4m at the 2022 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale. The colt is a son of Snitzel out of the stakes-winning C’est Beau La Vie whose ‘Aunt’ is Makybe Diva. This Chris Waller trained bay ran fifth at the midweeks on debut then was in the Black Opal 11-days later (he ran seventh). Lovely trial at Canterbury on May 5. Mogwai has done in his trials to warrant respect. Two nice staying prospects here that might well be the two Black Bookers; Ocean Diva and the stunning So You Think son – Zerkhan.
Bet: Cap Ferrat to win; First 4: 2 (standout) to beat 5,9,10,11,13
RACE 5
King Colorado is such a well-bred colt that we can’t not at least acknowledge that he is a son of Kingman and that his fourth dam is Fall Aspen who is pretty much the American equivalent of Eight Carat. As for what counts most come Tuesday, King Colorado will need to overcome the outside alley but at least we are at Kembla 1400m and we have seen him finish off big time if he has to. Ashfall is another of these really nice prospects by The Autumn Sun. This one is with Chris Waller; trialled well and has the dream alley (2). Evelyn May will go a mile when she has to but 1400m for now will have to do.
Bet: King Colorado to win, quinella 1,6
RACE 6
Catapult finished second here at Kembla on debut way back on Jan 19 in 2019 when part of the Godolphin string. He’s had 46 starts since, won five and placed 17 times, nine of them seconds. The Richard Litt trained gelding has always raced well here at Kembla; three placings from six visits. Doesn’t win out of turn butt this looks like the kind of race he might/can win. That was so wet underfoot at Rosehill on Apr 29 that we have to forgive Cuban Granchico. Sure, he likes the sting out but he was copping all the backwash. Surfers Royale has accepted for Canterbury on Wednesday and has claims here and there.
Bet: Catapult each-way, Daily Double 1st leg (9), 2nd leg (7)
RACE 7
Aurinko is owned by Greg Perry who bred Atlantic Jewel, Artorius and this filly’s half-brother, Delectation. This would be a good time to mention that Aurinko has accepted for Canterbury on Wednesday. As for Tuesday; 1400m (tick)., big track (tick again). Kerrin McEvoy booked for both venues (tick). Always In almost won debut (huge run!) then was ‘okay’ next time before the spell. Resumed at Wyong on May 11 and while she didn’t win by far and maybe it wasn’t a crackerjack field but she won a little bit of authority. Allasandra beat Willaidow at Wyong; that horse has won twice since. Massive ‘watch’ on Sidereal.
Bet: Aurinko to win or if scratched, Allasandra to place
RACE 8
Kozluca is trained by Jason Attard and Lucky Keegan-Attard who had a double at Hawkesbury last week and could easily rack up another ‘brace’ on Tuesday with Stars And Bars to be followed here by stablemate Kozluca. Designated as ‘Grey-Black’ in colour (and that’s odd!), Kozluca is third-up here off two good runs at Wyong. The bigger track here will suit him much better. Iron Man might be saved for Canterbury? Miss Faberge likewise has a race waiting for her on Wednesday. Gigantic is third-up and peaking at what is something of a favoured venue.
Bet: Kozluca each-way
