CRACK New Zealand sprinter Postman Pat has made a winning Australian debut with a slashing Geelong victory on Friday night.
The hugely gifted son of Hooked On Scotch and Birdie Tee covered the 460 metre journey in a flying 25.35, half-a-second quicker than the next best time on the program.
Setting up the victory with a brilliant getaway, Postman Pat carved out blistering sections en route to defeating a gallant Cybertruck by a length in dashing time.
NZ STARS HEAD ACROSS THE TASMAN
Winner at 10 of his first 14 starts in New Zealand in mesmerising style, Postman Pat was sent to champion trainer Jason Thompson in late March to prepare for an audacious Australian racing campaign.
At the same time, Big Daddy, also trained in NZ by Tony Hart, made the trip across to be prepared by Anthony Azzopardi, with the talented chaser burning up the tracks in trials in readiness for his Australian debut in the coming weeks.
Postman Pat’s commanding Geelong win opens up a number of doors for Thompson as to which direction he heads with the tremendously talented galloper.
Before making the trip across the Tasman his NZ connections knocked back a significant six-figure sum such was the remarkable ability he was demonstrating.
Last December, the prodigious talent broke the longstanding Ascot Park track record with a mesmerising 25.49 display in a heat of the Group 2 Far South Challenge, a series he went on to win.
HOOKED ON SCOTCH AT STUD
And on the strength of Friday night’s Geelong triumph, produced just on five weeks after arriving, testing track records in Australia may not be outside the realms of possibility either.
Postman Pat’s uprise continues the fantastic stud entry by Hooked On Scotch which continues to knock up winners all around the country.
Included in that list is powerhouse chaser Rejuvenate which boasts the Shepparton 450 metre track record and a near record 29.47 The Meadows run among his early achievements.
