FEEDBACK is being sought on eleven proposed names for roads in the Ballarat Airport precinct.
Buildings in the area currently use a reference numbers, as opposed to a traditional address and it’s proved confusing, with the push for named streets aiming to solve the problem.
The proposed names were formed with help from the Ballarat Airport manager, the Ballarat Airport stakeholder reference group, and the Wadawurrung Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation.
Feedback received in December 2022 was also considered with many of the proposed names related to historical aspects of the region.
The community is encouraged to give feedback providing reasoning why a name would not be supported or does not conform to Victoria’s naming rules.
“We want the new names of these roads to be a reflection not only of the region’s history, but also of the broader community,” said a City of Ballarat spokesperson.
“I’d encourage all residents to provide their feedback on the road names the City of Ballarat is proposing.”
Suggested names include Kitty Hawk Close, Winmaling Circuit, Gladys Way, Avro Anson Approach, Terminal Place, Karndorr Circuit, Fairbairn Street, Cheetah Road, Boomerang Road, Timmins Lane, and Petch Circuit.
A statement from the municipality said all the possible new names have aviation, military or First Nations links.
For information on how to provide feedback visit the City of Ballarat website and submissions close on Friday 7 July.
