Fatal single-vehicle crash in Flynn
A WOMAN has died and a child has been seriously injured following a single-vehicle crash in Flynn.
Investigators have been told a car was driving along Rosedale-Flynns Creek Road, about 7.50pm on Monday, May 8, when the driver lost control of the vehicle.
The car left the road and crashed into trees.
Sadly, the 31-year-old female passenger died at the scene.
The 11-year-old child was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries.
The 38-year-old male driver of the car was taken to hospital under police guard.
Major Collision Investigation Unit detectives have investigated the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The area was cordoned off and the police said the scene was assessed the following morning.
The male driver has since been charged with dangerous driving causing death, dangerous driving causing serious injury, unlicensed driving and driving an unregistered car.
He appeared before the Latrobe Valley Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.

Stolen camper
POLICE are investigating the theft of a Jayco camper trailer from a residence in Werribee.
The incident occurred on Christina Court around 9am on Thursday, March 30.
Investigators believe the white utility used in the theft and the stolen camper trailer are in the Latrobe Valley or East Gippsland area.

Three males charged after ramming police vehicle in stolen car
EAST Gippsland Criminal Investigation Unit detectives have charged three males after an allegedly stolen vehicle rammed police in East Bairnsdale on May 1.
It’s alleged the stolen Nissan Patrol reversed into a police vehicle in Royal Court about 5.30am. No one was injured during the incident.
A 17-year-old Black Hill boy has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, attempted theft of motor vehicle and committing an indictable offence whilst on bail. He has been remanded to appear at a Children’s Court at a later date.
A 27-year-old Morwell man has been charged with theft of a motor vehicle, attempting theft of motor vehicle, handling stolen goods, possessing proceeds of crime, possessing a controlled weapon and driving whilst disqualified. He has been remanded and was scheduled to appear before the Bairnsdale Magistrates’ Court on May 2.
A 19-year-old Wendouree man has been charged with aggravated intentional exposure of police officer to risk by driving, damage to emergency service vehicle by reckless driving, reckless conduct endangering serious injury, driving in a dangerous manner, assaulting police, theft of motor vehicle, attempted theft of motor vehicle, stating false name when requested. He was remanded to appear before the Bairnsdale Magistrates’ Court on May 2.
Impound in Heyfield
ON Monday, May 8, police in Heyfield intercepted an unlicensed person riding an unregistered motorcycle. Police impounded the motorcycle for a period of 30 days. The offender will be required to pay costs of $995 to retrieve the impounded motorcycle and may be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
Police said a bicycle may become a motorcycle in the following scenarios:
- The pedals have been removed
- The rider is not pedalling and is maintaining a steady speed on level ground
- The motor may no longer be auxiliary and the bicycle is now a motorcycle.
- The motor exceeds 200w
- The motor has an internal combustion engine of 50cc = 3hp = 2238 watts, 200w = 0.26hp of approx. 4.42cc
- Possible offences include unlicensed riding, unregistered motorcycle, or not wearing an approved motorcycle helmet.
Police engages community
ON Saturday, April 29, members from the Wellington Police Service Area attended the CODE 9 Foundation Market and Family Fun Day in Rosedale.
The Code 9 Foundation provides a place of support for current and veteran professional first responders and triple-zero operators who live with PTSD, depression, anxiety and other mental health conditions that result from their service to the community.
This support is available both in the ‘virtual world’ as well as via organised peer-to-peer ‘catch-up’ nights, coffee meet-ups and other formal events.
