Freund, who heads up mergers and acquisitions at Goldman Sachs, and Murphy have paid about $25 million for a house on a battleaxe block of 1500 square metres, negotiating the deal on the quiet through buyer’s agents Carli Skurnik and Martine Harvey.
The house was sold by the local arm of Hong Kong and British global conglomerate Swire Group, chaired locally by Geoff Cundle, but previously by Bill Rothery, who was a resident during the 15 years he headed up the shipping, property, aviation, soft drink and development giant.
Swire dates back to 1816, and expanded to focus on the Asia Pacific 150 years ago. It is currently chaired by British billionaire Barnaby Swire, and local operations overseen by his cousin Sam Swire, son of billionaire and former chairman Sir Adrian Swire and Lady Judith Compton.
The house last traded in 1983 for $785,000 from Alexander and Eve Endrey, who purchased it in 1977 from the Throsby pastoralist family.
Dawson homecoming
McKinsey & Company’s senior partner Angus Dawson is returning to his childhood home in Randwick, the landmark residence Allowah, after he purchased it for about $14.5 million.
Dawson was only four years old when former Arnotts chief executive Sandy Dawson snr and sculptor Jane Dawson bought the Victorian Italianate residence in 1978 for $197,500 from Anthony Christmas, of the Woolworths’ founding family.
It was no doubt a happy family home for Angus and his late siblings, barristers Sandy Dawson SC and Katrina Dawson, until their parents sold it in 2001, having expanded the grounds in 1986 when they acquired an adjoining block to make way for a tennis court.
Twenty-two years after the Dawsons sold it for a then Randwick high of $4.3 million Angus returns to take his pick of the five bedrooms, albeit for an undisclosed price.
Savills’ Martin Schiller had a $15 million guide when he listed it in April.
Love thy neighbour
Things are obviously going well between high-profile architect Nick Tobias and his girlfriend Dana Lewis given the latter has purchased a house next door to him in Watsons Bay.
Lewis has paid more than $8 million for the home of former Australian trade commissioners Roger and Julie Bayliss, just months after she and her former husband David Lewis sold their Bellevue Hill home for $37.5 million to F45 co-founder Rob Deutsch and his wife Nicole Perso.
Tobias has already lodged plans for alterations and additions to his house, purchased in 2020 for $5.1 million following his split from former wife, writer and former model Miranda Darling.
The Baylisses owned the 1920s cottage almost 25 years before they listed it with Raine & Horne’s Alex Lyons and Ray White’s Adam Reichman, and are bound for Darling Point where sources say Lyons recently sold them the apartment of former Qantas boss Geoff Dixon and his wife Dawn for more than $6 million.
