What a week of golf for the Gympie Golf Club Vets.
Monday, 12 June, the bus left the Golf Club at 6.30am to travel to Hervey Bay.
The first jelliatric was given out before the bus made it to the highway.
Jeff Hudgson asked the driver (Michael James) if the bus could go up the hill.
Michael, not familiar with all the controls on the bus, hit a button and locked the brakes.
Bryan Stallard put his card in one buggy and drove in another buggy – “Where is your card Bryan?”
Sleepy heads on the bus included John Hardy, “Hubcaps”, Ed Rowlands, Gavin Gagen, Scott Sommerville, Jim Eason and Kim Blackburn.
Must have been a hard day on the greens.
Best jelly was awarded to Greg Gooding.
It would appear that Greg is so sick of being beaten by his wife (Noleen) that he left her clubs on the buggy at Hervey Bay.
He got up at 3.30am Tuesday to drive to Hervey Bay and get the clubs so Noleen could play here at Gympie.
Tuesday the Gympie Vets played a single Stableford with 75 golfers in the field.
A grade winner was Scott Sommerville on a count back to Ed Rowlands on 37.
Coming in third was Graham Mitchell on 36.
B graded winner was Tony Brown on a fine score of 42. Great work Tony.
Coming in second was Neil Hitchens on a countback to Russell Ashby on 37.
C grade was won by Jim Eason on 38 followed closely by Bob McPherson on 37 and coming in third was Michael James on 34.
The ball run down went to 34.
Accuracy Drive and pin shots, sponsored by Gingers, Shaw’s Meat and Fisherman Haul, were won by Scott Sommerville, Graham Mitchell, Bill Wood, Greg Mitchell and Bob McPherson.
The ball in the pink bag was won by Bruce Godden.
Wednesday the Gympie Vets hosted the District Team Challenge.
There were teams from Headlands, Pelican Waters, Peregian Cooroy, Tin Can Bay, Noosa, Mt Coolum, Caloundra and Nambour playing on a picture perfect day. From the Meet and Greet, to the Coffee and Cake to the great way the green staff had worked on the course, to the spotters, it all made the day a great success again.
There were 76 golfers in the field and 13 volunteers – thanks to all involved including volunteers, players, organisers, green staff, pro shop staff, bar and bistro staff.
A grade winner was the Nambour team on 27 points.
Gympie came in second on a countback to Caloundra and Mt Coolum, all on 26.
B grade was won by Gympie with a great score of 32. In second place was Cooroy on 29.
Gympie players only won two prizes in the raffle and one pin shot.
Mike Lagowski, the District President, thanked Captain Ian for a great day. Brilliant organisation.
Quote of the week: “Achievements on the golf course are not what matters; decency and honesty are what matter,” Tiger Woods.
