The Football Queensland Premier League-3 hosts its first catch-up round of the year this weekend with two men’s matches headlining.
The Nerimbera Magpies have gotten back onto winning ways and will head towards a top matchup against high-class opposition.
The Magpies towelled up Bluebirds United 9-1 including four goals in the opening 23 minutes.
A Mafi Seeto-Toloi first half double really kicked things off for Nerimbera who then pushed on with the job.
That goal-spree will give the side some good confidence heading into a contest against Clinton FC.
The Grubs knocked off the 5-0 Magpies just two rounds ago when the Nerimbera squad travelled to the Gladstone region.
With a chance at retribution the Nerimbera team, led by Sam Skinner, will be eager to prove they can hang with the competition heavyweights.
Clinton remains unfazed by any FQPL-3 opponents this season having won all of their matches and will be keen to keep that streak alive.
The only other men’s match this weekend will feature the Southside United Hawks facing the Capricorn Coast Eagles in a battle of the birds.
Southside picked up a good win over Parkana FC on their home pitch on Friday night, coming out victorious with a scoreline that read 3-0.
Two quick-fire goals, scored by Steven Roser and Nicholas Kirkpatrick in the 31st and 34th minutes respectively, set the tone for the Hawks.
Ben Gregg would go on to seal the contest with a goal of his own, keeping Southside’s finals chase thriving.
With their catch-up game a clear chance to leapfrog Nerimbera into fourth spot, the Hawks will be looking to knock over the Eagles quickly.
Cap Coast were defeated comfortably by the Grubs on the weekend, losing 6-1 as they were simply outclassed.
It only took Clinton two minutes to break the opening deadlock so the Eagles will have to sure up their defence if they are to hold the Hawks out this weekend.
And in the only other result from round 10 not mentioned Frenchville FC were too strong for the Berserker Bears, running out 3-0 winners.
Matteson Mcguire, Caleb Hornagold and Jordan Miller were the goalscorers for the Roos in that one.
In the women’s FQPL-3 competition there will be two major battles with the first seeing the Capricorn Coast Eagles take on Central FC for the third time this season.
The Eagles have lost both contests by a whisker and they’ll be hoping that the third time is the charm for them.
Cap Coast were good enough to squeeze past the Frenchville Roos on the weekend with a 3-1 win while Central were knocked off by their local rivals Clinton FC 3-2.
Bluebirds United and Clinton will also collide this weekend with both teams coming off wins.
United scored a 3-2 victory over the Nerimbera Magpies in a classic between the two Rockhampton-region sides.
Bluebirds will aim to keep that momentum rolling after creating an even bigger gap on the FQPL-3 table thanks to that win.
