Peggy L. Nelson, 73 years of Sturgeon Bay passed away Friday, June 9, 2023, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Green Bay.
She was born October 12, 1949, in Sturgeon Bay, the daughter of the late Anthony Wendoline and Shirley (DeFaut) Kerscher. Peggy graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1967 before attending U.W. Stevens Point. On January 8, 1982, she married George “Mark” Nelson in Sturgeon Bay at the home of Mark’s sister, Jonlee Peterson.
Peggy was a private person, beautiful inside and out. She enjoyed working many years at Doerr Electric, and in purchasing at Hatco, then together with Mark in the office at Nelson Team Ford. Her favorite position came later in her work career as she was the county substitute librarian for 14 years until she retired.
The comment many people are making is “Peggy was so nice.” She was a member of Hope United Church of Christ. Peggy was a great athlete. She enjoyed bowling and playing softball when younger, then golfing and tennis with Mark later in life. Nature was her cathedral and spotting animals especially bald eagles made her spirit soar. Peggy was a food connoisseur and made everything from scratch.
Survivors include her husband, Mark; two children, Jesse (Samantha) Nelson of Pittsburgh, PA, Jayme Nelson (Jordan Sandvig) of Saint Paul, MN; her twin sister, Penny Rouse of Coleman; and brother, David (Sandy) Kerscher of Sturgeon Bay; in-laws, Jonlee Peterson of Sturgeon Bay and Florida, Leslee (Craig Werner) Nelson of Madison (their daughters Riah Wakenda Werner and Kaylee Yasmin Werner).
She was preceded in death by her parents; Gary Robert Peterson, who married Peggy in 1971; and brother-in-law, Daryl Rouse.
Friends may call at Hope United Church of Christ in Sturgeon Bay on Saturday, July 15, 2023 from 11:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. with the Memorial Service beginning at 1:15 p.m. Burial will follow at Bayside Cemetery.
