XXXX has revealed who will sport the Townsville post code on their Queensland jerseys during the highly anticipated State of Origin series. See who.
Queensland Rugby League’s longest-running partner, XXXX beer, on Thursday confirmed that North Queensland Cowboys’ superstar Valentine Holmes would wear 4810 on the left sleeve of his Maroon jersey.
“In the Maroons team, we all come from different parts of Queensland whether it’s south, central or up far north,” Holmes said.
“While we have grown up with unique experiences, we all share the same feeling of pride in our State.”
The dangerous back who will play a central role in Queensland’s ambitions of retaining the Origin shield said players wearing the postcodes on the famed jersey “was an awesome way to honour our shared heritage and hopefully make footy fans in Queensland feel just as proud as we are of where they come from”.
“I’m proud of my origins, including the Western Lions, that gave me a passion for league from a young age,” he said of the Townsville club.
“I’m honoured to represent Townsville (4810) as a thanks for the great support my community gave me throughout my career.”
Holmes’ fellow current and former Cowboys’ heavyweights Selwyn Cobbo will wear Cherbourg (4605), Reuben Cotter Sarina (4737), Tom Dearden Mackay (4740) and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow Cairns (4870).
Ben Hunt, wearing Ingham postcode 4850, sealed a series win for Queensland against NSW with a sensational breakaway try in match three in Brisbane in 2022.
XXXX brewery executive Chris Allan said players had last year embraced the opportunity to celebrate the contributions of their communities by proudly displaying their postcodes on their jersey.
“Each player has a unique origin story and they are proud to wear their family name on their back and their community on their sleeve.”
Queensland lock Patrick Carrigan said that growing up in Brisbane, it was his dream to represent his state in the Maroon jersey.
“When I step out onto the field, I’m stepping out for everyone from my hometown of Holland Park (4121) and for our loyal Queensland supporters.”
He said Queenslanders should be proud the XXXX initiative had continued for a second year.
“These communities are close to our hearts so it’s a fitting tribute to wear them on our sleeves and celebrate the places that make this state full of pride and greatness.”
